| Montevallo, Alabama is a town of about 5,000 people. Located 30 miles south of Birmingham, it is probably most famous as the home of the University of Montevallo, a fine liberal arts college which has provided an excellent education to thousands of people around the world.
The town's hundreds of historic buildings are reached by well-shaded streets and avenues. There are probably as many squirrels living in Montevallo's tree canopy as there are people below. Montevallo has excellent recreational facilities. The largest of these are in the park, which features baseball diamonds and a one-mile circular walking path. The path is built beside a gentle stream which can be crossed on several foot bridges. The word "Montevallo" means "mountain and valley" in Italianan accurate name, for the streets all lead gently upward to the University. The land surrounding Montevallo is rolling and heavily wooded. This area of the state sits in the farthest southern foothills of the Applalachian mountains. If you get to north central Alabama, don't miss taking a walk around Montevallo. Or if you can't get here in person, take a look at the pictures on this page and use your imaginationyou'd love it! |

| "Flowerhill" is the name of the University of Montevallo's Presidential home.
The university gardeners are always careful to keep fresh flowers planted below this sign! |
